Deep Well Pumps

Deep well pumps are used to pump water out of the ground. In many cases when digging a natural well you may need to go rather deep in the ground before you hit water. Sometimes this can be 50 feet or more. When digging deeper for water standard pumps won’t work. In this case a deep well pump will be required.

Deep well pumps use one pipe mounted to an impeller housing which drives water down into the jet body located below the minimum well water level. A second pipe is used to connect the output side of the jet body back to the pump. There is a vacuum that is created that draws standing water into second pipe and back into the pump.

With this system there is potential for over pumping. This can be eliminated by connecting a tailpipe into the jet housing unit. When the water drops below the level of the jet housing the deep well pumps replicates the action of a shallow water pump. The tailpipe system was devised to assure that there will never be pumped dry. These pumps need to be primed to operate much in the same fashion as a shallow well pump.

Another method for operating deep well pumps is to move the pump into the well so that it is pushing the water instead of pulling it. In the case of water pump is better to push than to pull. This type of deep well pump system requires a submersible pump. A submersible pump contains a long cylindrical shape that fits inside the well casing. This system consists of two parts, the first part consists of a sealed motor connected to a power source, and the second part of the setup consists of a series of impellers that drive the water up the pipe.

Of the two systems the submersible pump runs more efficiently and tends to be more reliable but they are harder to get at when trying to repair. This may not be a major concern considering submersible pumps are known to last 20 years or more without being serviced.

Both of these pump systems consist of basically the same components. Both systems also use the same principles of operation. Basically the pump moves the water to a storage tank and consists of a bladder that compresses when filled with water. This bladder creates pressure and pressure moves the water through the plumbing system.

Pumps are not designed to run continually. When the water pressure reaches a particular level the pressure decreases and the switch is activated which cycles the pump. This process is repeated as a water system is used. This provides water from a deep well as a result of the submersible or jet pump.

When looking for a deep well pump there are many sources available including hardware stores and Internet-based retailers. These retailers may provide better prices than a local store. Remember that is important to make sure you’re buying a deep well pump from a reputable dealer.
